“One Senior Man’s Experience Moving into Assisted Living near Spanish Fort, AL”
The morning broke a bit cooler than it had been in recent weeks. John appreciated this break, but he knew that this was going to be one of the longer days in recent memory. He was moving from his apartment, where he had lived for the last ten years, where he had friends, and where he was comfortable, into an assisted living community.
This wasn’t really his idea; it was his oldest daughter’s idea. She usually stopped by once a week or more often to spend some time and while he appreciated it, he wondered if he would have remained in the apartment until his time in this life was up.
But he was having trouble with so many things in recent months that deep down he knew that moving into an assisted living facility was the right step. He had gone over a whole bunch of information with his daughter, visited a few facilities, and decided that the one he chose was the most comfortable and seemed to have the activities that he would enjoy.
He actually found that he was anticipating this move out of a combination of anxiety and apprehension, as well as hope and inspiration.
The move itself was going to be tough. There was only so much he could do and while his family was going to assist him, he hired a moving service. He made sure to find one that had experience helping seniors like him move into assisted living.
He hadn’t gone through everything in his apartment. He even had a small space in the basement of the building for storage and hadn’t been in there in a long time; he wasn’t concerned about that. Most of his belongings would be moved to a storage unit close to the assisted living facility so that he would be able to go through it when he had time, and a ride to get there.
The movers came in with a plan and John watched in awe as they moved everything with seeming ease and organization. They packed all of the things he was bringing to his new home first, then everything else after that. They unloaded at the storage unit on the way and finally helped him settle into his new home.
For John, getting that help was vital because it allowed him to relax a bit and not feel so stressed. It also afforded his family the same ability to feel less stress. When you or a loved one is planning to move into assisted living, it’s a good idea to consider hiring a professional mover to alleviate the stress and anxiety that are common with these types of major life changes.
