Assisted Living Moving Tips for the Fall Months

Assisted Living in Spanish Fort AL

Autumn is a great time to make a move. The temperatures are not summerlike heat, the humidity will be dropping, across most of the country, and for any senior who has decided that assisted living is the best option for them, congratulations. It’s a great decision.Assisted-Living-in-Spanish-Fort-AL

Now, though, once the decision has been made, it’s time to begin thinking about the actual move itself. Whether the elderly individual has been living in an apartment for a few months, years, or has been in the same home for decades, this move can be relatively simple or extremely complicated.

When people have a tendency to remain in the same place for many years, they often collect more and more things. That makes it difficult to winnow out some of their possessions and figure out what to do with everything else. After all, there’s only so much they can take with them into their new home environment at this assisted living facility.

Here are a few moving tips for the upcoming fall months.

Moving Tip #1: Start early.

Whether the move in date is in a couple of weeks or a month or two, begin as early as possible. This means start going through old boxes, things that have been in storage, in the attic, or in a basement for quite some time. These boxes may hold items the senior thought he or she would need at some point, or trinkets and mementos.

Now is the time to begin going through these boxes and passing on what they want to share with family or friends, consider selling some at a tag or garage sale, or donating or simply throwing it out if they’re not worth anything at all.

Moving Tip #2: Get assistance.

It’s great to be able to rely family and friends, but it may be more practical to hire a professional moving service. Whatever you choose, make sure you arrange this help to be available as soon as possible.

Waiting until the last week or last few days can pose a number of possible challenges you don’t want to have to deal with during this particular move.

Moving Tip #3: Be clear on what’s welcome.

Speak to an administrator at the assisted living facility to where you will be moving to find out what furniture is acceptable, what items are welcome, and that will give you a good starting point and allow you to narrow your focus for this upcoming move.
