When it comes to assisted living, technology is also a component of these facilities, but how much varies from one place to the next.

When people think about assisted living and technology, they might not view it as being all that important. After all, seniors are the ones living in these facilities. Seniors didn’t grow up with personal computers. A lot of them might use smart phones and tablets and may have some experience with personal computers, including desktop and laptop systems, but they may or may not have all that much experience with the systems beyond the basics.

So, why would technology be all that important?

Technology can be an integral aspect of many living situations for a wide range of reasons. First and foremost, technology is a great way for people to stay in communication with their family members and friends, whether they live in town or across the country or even around the world.

Security is also improved with technology.

While being safe and secure is one of the most important aspects of life for people as they get older, it should never take a backseat to the desire for privacy. With advanced technology, an assisted living community can provide a safer environment for all of the residents while also maintaining the privacy those same residents desire.

Prior to her arrival at Ashbury Manor, Cindy managed acquisitions and crisis management for existing and new larger senior care project developments for eleven years. As regional manager for an Oregon-based assisted living management company, Cindy was directly responsible for operations for five 50-65 bed assisted living facilities. As manager during the transition to new ownership, Cindy reorganized internal operations and conducted leadership training for Executive Directors. As a result of her management and expertise, one of the company’s facilities (in Ocala, Florida) received a deficiency-free survey, resulting in the lifting of a moratorium on operation.

A nurse for 36 years, senior care has always been Cindy’s passion. Desiring to work more closely with residents, Cindy became a Category II Administrator in 2005. As Ashbury Manor’s Administrator, Cindy understands the complexities associated with dementia and cognitive impairment and she has fallen in love with seniors with dementia or cognitive impairment and their families.

Cindy is Treasurer of the local “Senior Coalition” chapter. She enjoys mentoring new candidates who want to become administrators.
